| Derek Larken had it all growing up in his small town the perfect girlfriend, grades handed to him because of who his dad was, he could walk on water. He had his life planned out he would marry Ashley become a cop like his dad and rule their small town. Too bad for him he never much cared for Ashley's thoughts on the matter, then was shocked when she dropped him for a woman no less.
One might figure that this little jolt to his ego may knock him down a peg or two, but then they don't know Larken. He knew going with his dad to New York and becoming a detective up in the big city, woman would throw themselves at him. He was very handsome man after all. He would get over what's her name in no time. When his father was appointed Deputy Commissioner, he basically became untouchable, his friends called him the "Boy King" which he took to mean the next leader. Sadly, it spoke to his attitude and laziness on the job.
Lucky for him his partner, Kim, was an amazing cop. She was the first one in and the last one to leave. While he on the other strolled in and out like he owned the place. Another gift from the heavens was the fact his partner was not a rat, so she kept his laziness to herself even when it bothered her to know end. She closed case after case while he sat around and bragged about their teamwork and chemistry.
Derek's world changed in the blink of an eye, all because of one man and his innocence. Larken has a laundry list of faults but heartless is not one of them nor is he truly stupid or incompetent. He just never really had to try, until the day he watched an innocent man get sentenced to life in prison for crime he never committed. |
