| Having a history such as Ellianna's one may think there is no way she was happy child, but your assumption would be wrong. Yes, she lost her parents in some freak boating accident when she was only a year old and with no other family, she had to be put into the system but that is where her sad story ends. She was adopted by Spangler's a working class African American family that showered her with love and attention everyday of her life.
Her mother Tasha was a sixth-grade science teacher and she loved to teach always coming up with crazy experiments to get her class off their butts and learning by doing. Darren, her father, was a nurse at the local hospital in the emergency room. He too loved his work even with all the horrors he witnessed on regular basis. Her parents worked hard but were never too busy for their kids, raising three adoptive children with all the love and guidance any child could hope for.
They never hid she was adopted, how could they really but what stood out to Ellianna was the way they loved her and her sisters without question. She needed help with homework her father would sit with her patient as a frog waiting on a fly to see the light bulb go off in her head. When womanhood happened her mother always the poet explained all about the birds and bees. She often tells her "Elli, you cannot expect a man or woman to respect you if you don't respect yourself".
She wanted her parents to be proud of her, both sets, the one's that raised her as their own and the ones watching from above. So, she worked hard in school graduating with honors and being accepted into all the schools she applied to. Deciding to continue the Spangler family tradition she enrolled at NYU where she would major in Journalism, she wanted to be a voice casting light in the dark like her parent did for her. She wanted to make a difference like they did but in her own way by hunting out corruption to make the world a better place.
It was there she meet him, Mason Jackson, so much like her father strong, funny, protective, and kind. The moment her eyes gazed into his she knew then they would be together forever, that their lives would eternally be linked. |
